Star Swamp Bushland North Beach

Heritage Trail 1.4km * On The Lead Bush Walk * Seating

Star Swamp Busland North Beach is some of Perth's most beautiful suburban bushland thanks to management by the community volunteer group Friends of Star Swamp. It's is a 96 hectare conservation reserve and during our visit we walked the Star Swamp Heritage Trail, although there is a lot more of Star Swamp to explore.

Star Swamp was recently designated an on the lead reserve. This was mostly due to quenda (southern brown bandicoot) populations found in the area. The reserve is closely monitored by the Friends of Star Swamp and rangers so please abide by the on the lead requirement and ensure you pick up after your dog - there are plenty of bags and bins available.

There are a few more rules in this area as outlined in the sign above. The pathways are suitable or walking, pushing prams or riding bikes, but no bmx track activities are allowed and you are asked to stick to paths and tracks.

Given the size of Star Swamp Bushland  there are various entry points and places to park around the reserve. The parked at the end of Mary St where there are a few parking bays and gives you good access to the Heritage Trail.

The Star Swamp Bushland Heritage Traill tracks are mostly compacted earth but there are small sections of sealed pathways.  There are signs along the track to highlight historical points of interest and there are few bench seats along the trail also. The  Heritage Trail is 1.4km - so you may want to venture and explore beyond the trail if you are looking or a longer walk.

The bushland around the Heritage Trail is the most dense part of the Star Swamp Bushland Reserve. The bushland is well preserved and maintained and is abundant in beautiul wildflowers and other flora and fauna. The main floweriing season is August to October but you will find dozens of wildflowers all year round including over a dozen species of orchid.  Over 65 species of birds have been recorded in this area - as well as a range of reptiles, insects and spiders.

Whether you are looking for a short bushwalk or somewhere to explore for the day without having to drive too far out of the suburbs - you will love Star Swamp Bushland.
