A walk around the swamp at Carine Regional Open Space is a great way to enjoy a bit of nature and some off the lead activity with your dog. There are a couple of circular walks at Carine Regional Open Space however we enjoyed a walk around the larger swamp on this occasion. Carine Regional Open Space is designated off the lead - however your dog must be under your control.
The pathway around the larger swamp is roughly half sealed and half compacted limestone. You can get glimpses of the swamp as you walk around, however it's mostly dense bushland around the swamp. Our Arrow unfortunately likes to chase birds so the dense bushland kept him away from the waters edge so we didn't have any issues with him interacting with any of the water birds.
We estimate it was approximately 2-2.5kms around the larger swamp and took up about 45 mins with a few stops to throw the ball along the way. You can also find a few exercise stations around the park if you feel inclined.
Whichever track you choose you will come across some of the resident Carine Regional Open Space horses that belong to the Riding for the Disabled Association of WA, so make sure you stop and say hello - but please don't feed them.
On our return back to the car we played a bit of fetch. It's not called Carine Open Space for nothing, there is certainly lots of green grassy open space to enjoy some off the lead exercise - even if you don't fancy a walk around the swamp. If you have kids you can also find a large kids playground here on the Okley Road side and a smaller one on the Monyash Road side.
Whether you are after somewhere to enjoy a bit of nature or you are looking for a big open space to give your dog some off the lead exercise - Carine Open Space is perfect.
