Banks Reserve Mount Lawley is the perfect spot for some off the lead exercise, a splash by the river or to stay a little longer and enjoy a BBQ or a picnic. You can see from this picture that it's located directly across the river from Belmont Park.
As you enter the car park you will see signs stating that dogs must be on a lead. Don't despair, after a short on the lead walk from the carpark you will come across the dog exercise area. There is a small carpark at Banks Reserve and street parking also available.
This area features a large grassed off the lead area that is bordered by shady trees and exercise stations. There are also some picnic tables and rocks with artwork embedded in them.
If you have children there is a great playground here too. If you don't have children it's also great as the playground is fully fenced so you don't have to worry about your dog wandering into the play area.
You just have be mindful that there is a shared pathway that runs across the base of the park in front on the river foreshore area. There is a small section of the river foreshore in front of the dog exercise park where your dog can enjoy a little off the lead splash. It's not the nicest stretch of sand in this area but Arrow didn't care he loved getting his paws wet and having a little splash and sniff in the bushes here. A picnic table is located near the water if you would like to enjoy a little something to eat while your dog explores.
If you fancy a bit of a walk, there is a lovely 1.2km walk (+1.2km back) to Bardon Park. The walk is on the lead on a shared path that takes you through the beautiful wetland area here, that is abundant with water birds and wildlife. You can often find Annie's Woodfired Pizzas at Bardon Park (Wed- Sun 10am - 6pm, just check their facebook to confirm they will be there) so you could walk up for a pizza and walk back or start at Bardon Park, enjoy your pizza and take the walk down to Banks Reserve and back to walk it off. Bardon Park is also off the lead between the toilets and the river's edge.
If you are a little thirsty after your walk there is a water fountain and dog bowl alongside the playground and of course you can head back to the river's edge for a little splash to cool off.
Banks Reserve is a top spot for fur families to enjoy a day outdoors by the river. Whether it be for a quick off the lead run or to stay awhile and enjoy an evening BBQ by the river. This spot will not disappoint. Please note: this is a popular fishing spot and we have read warnings about fishing hooks and wire being left on the banks. Make sure you have a good look around the area your dog is walking before you let them run around to be sure.
